This volume gathers the major part of the contributions which have been presented during the 8th IARTEM conference on learning and educational media, held in Caen in October 2005, “Caught in the Web or lost in the Textbook?”.  More than eighty participants attended the conference, coming from five continents and twenty-seven different countries.

In this volume, keynote speeches and papers from four different themes are presented:

  • Changing Identities in a Global World
  • Textbooks and Educational Media in the Learning Environment
  • Quality, Evaluation and Selection
  • Design of Learning Materials

The textbook and educational media research field engenders international interest and this volume provides a wide overview of current research questions.
We hope this volume, taking into account the diversity and the quality of the different contributions, constitutes a major source book for research on textbook and educational media.
